Judge Don Currie of Nottawa, Ontario sorted the 160 Red and Black Angus Cattle. Canadian Angus President, David Bolduc; Canadian Angus CEO, Rob Smith and Canadian Junior Angus Ambassador, Austen Anderson were in attendance. It was great to see some new young exhibitors and the top quality of Angus cattle exhibited. Thanks to everyone who exhibited cattle, sponsors and spectators who participated in the National Angus Show. In the Thursday night All Breeds Jackpot heifer calf show, Overall Champions were both Black Angus Females
Following the Little Lady Classic, exhibitors enjoyed Angus hors d’oeuvres at the Taste of Beef . The Angus Beef was supplied by the Certified Angus Beef Program and was prepared by the Culinary Arts students at Crocus Plains High School. Friday night in the Jackpot All Breeds Bull Show the Reserve Champion Bull Calf was won by a Black Angus Bull Calf.
Sunday Manitoba Junior Angus Show
The Angus Weekend ended with Pizza in the barn and the first time Angus Select event.The winner of the Event was Michael Gray of Spittalburn Farms, Perdue Saskatchewan who selected the female from Karl and Kristine Sauter, Bridgeway Farms, Wawota, SK.. The Sauter’s received a cheque for $ 5700. for their Angus Select Female.

JUNIOR SHOW HONORED THE MEMORY OF GRANT MOFFAT Five years ago cattleman Grant Moffat Disappeared and since that time a fund has been set up for Junior Cattle Producers to purchase a purebred female of any breed to start their herd from the Grant Moffat Herdbuilder Fund. www.grantmoffat.com. To honor Grant the Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup Shirts for 2011 were dark purple Grant’s farm color with Holmsyde Charolais (his farms logo on the back). The Juniors were excited to wear the shirts in honor of a fellow past cattle producer. Five of the winners of the Grant Moffat Herdbuilder Award were participating in Roundup and the events. It is great to see the enthusiasm this award has brought to the Junior Cattle Producers. Forty six of Manitoba’s enthusiastic Junior Cattle Producers attended the Fourth annual Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup July 29, 30, and 31, 2011 in Neepawa Manitoba. The cattle industry is in continuing to prosper when 1/3 of the members for the weekend were new to Roundup which is encouraging to see. The weekend started off with a Workshop Day on Friday consisting of Ultrasound technology by Shari Beamish; Horse Judging,byMr McLeod; Showmanship by Andrea Arbuckle and Halter Making by Blair McRaeMembers Exhibited Photography, Graphic Design, Print Marketing, Art, Scrapbook and took part in Sales Talk competition. Saturday the Juniors took part in Sales Talk, Judging, Team Grooming, Team Judging and Pee Wee Learning Clinic. |

TEAM GROOMING 1st Place- Nicholas Bray, Braden Calvert, Lindsay Verwey, Naomi Best, Brooklyn Hedley and Brady McLeod. The judges for the above competitons were Bonnie Glasman, Andrea Arbuckle, Ken Williams, Ken Waddell, Karen Williams , Rilla Hunter, and Craig Scott, One of the highlights of Saturday is the Cook off, where 5 Members on a team prepare a steak and Create a theme. Judges Ken Waddell of Neepawa Banner and Dave Ericson, Clavet, SK evaluated this competition and were impressed with the taste of the steaks, presentation and the themes and costumes. Winning Team was Raina Syrnyk, Justin Kristjansson, Taylor Carvey,Alyssa Sigvaldason. Sydney de Koning, and Taron Topham with a score of 91 out of 100. Sunday, the members took part in Showmanship in the morning with After Lunch were the Cattle Conformation classes with 64 head of cattle: Judges for the day were Dave Ericson and Krista Dust, Clavet, SK and Cameron Nykoliation, Crandall ANGUS Class 1 Angus Heifer Calves Class 2 Yearling Heifers Split 1 Junior Champion- Naomi Best Class 3 Two year old and Calf Class 4 Cow and Calf class Senior Champion- Nicholas Bray, Eddystone Grand Champion Angus Female- Naomi Best, Harding Class 5 Angus Bull Calf
Other Juniors Particiapting that did not have cattle were Brady McLeod, Kevin Speers, Rachael, Lindsay, Randi and Brice Verwey,Alysha Sigvaldason, Kendra and Taron Topham, Kieshiro Exhibitor Draw for Kirk Stierwalt ( Andes Clippers) Was won by Brooklyn Hedley, Rapid City Roundup Committee 2011 - Chariperson, Lois McRae: Sec- Treas- Lesley Hedley:, Bert McDonald, Blair McRae,Wenda Best, Rilla and Dillon Hunter, Albert and Jay Rimke, Candace Johnston, Carter Ferguson, Ken Williams, Andrea Arbuckle, and Emily Hickson, The Juniors ages 5- 25 enjoyed Weiner roasts, Quiz Bowl and game mixers along with the weekend. It was a great way for Juniors of all Cattle Breeds to work together and meet new people. Summer Angus Gold Show at Manitou Fair, judge Bill Campbell Minto A strong set of Angus Cattle gathered at the Manitou fair for the Annual Summer Gold Show. Due to the unusual weather the numbers were down but the quality was exceptional. Manitoba hosts successful CAA AGM |

Canadian Angus Annual Meeting at Clear Lake 2011 and raised $ 25,000. for the Foundation and Kids for Cancer . The Manitoba Angus Association hosted the 105 th Annual Canadian Angus Association General Meeting and Conference June 9-11 th, 2011. A crowd of over 100 Angus enthusiasts gathered at Elkhorn Ranch, Clear Lake for the 3 day event. Thursday evening at the Presidents Reception. The candidates for the Robert C. McHaffie Junior Ambassador Competition presented their speeches on the where they would be in the future of Canadian Angus. Competitors were Kevin Bolduc, Alberta: Megan Kemp, Pilot Mound, Manitoba; Laurie Noiseux of Quebec and Austen Anderson of Swan River Manitoba. The Junior Ambassador will travel around Canada in 2011 representing the Angus Breed and will attend the World Angus Secretariat in Argentina. Friday’s itinerary included tours in the Dauphin area or golf in and around the resort area completing the evening was a delicious Ukrainian meal along with an extremely impressive performance from the Zirca Dance club from Dauphin. Past Canadian Angus Junior Ambassador Erica Easton ended the evening with a presentation of the highlights of her year. Saturday Morning was the start of the Annual Meeting for the Canadian Angus Association. President Kirk Wildman opened the 105 th Annual meeting. The morning activities were Multi Breed EPD, Registrations, and the Canadian Angus Rancher Endorsed presentations for the members. Following that the group broke into Roundtable discussions on the various programs of the Angus Breed. |

Afternoon Annual meeting highlights were presented by Chief Executive Officer Doug Fee: *Angus remains solidly entrenched as Canada’s leading beef breed with more than half of the purebred beef cattle registrations. |

A highlight of the Meetings was the Banquet where the guests enjoyed a tender juicy slice of Canadian Angus Ranchers Endorsed beef along with Manitoba Pickerel and the fixings. A new award for the Angus Association was the CANADIAN ANGUS FEEDLOT OF THE YEAR AWARD. This award it to recognize feedlots that promote Angus to their customers and that feed Canadian Angus Ranchers Endorsed tagged cattle. Manitoba is pleased to have the first winners of this award High Ridge Feeders (Ed and Glori Dalke) and Shannondale Farm (Harry and Brenda Dalke) of Morden Manitoba from our province. The Dalke family are dedicated producers to the Angus Breed and we appreciate their support to our product. |
Several 50, 75 and 100 year awards were presented to families who maintained a continuous membership in the Angus Association. Manitoba Members Prairielane Farms, Souris, Manitoba (the Canning family) were presented the 75 year member award along with Mountain View Farms (The Anderson Family) of Swan River. As Doug Fee the Chief Executive Officer is retiring a presentation covering the past 17 years was made by the CAA Board of Directors, Manitoba Angus and many past presidents who worked with Doug. Rounding off the evening was the Canadian Angus Foundation Fundraiser. ANGUS BREEDERS RAISED OVER $ 25,000 to be split between the Angus Foundation and Kids for Cancer. Cancer affects many of our lives and a friendly competition was initiated to raise some funds with Past President ( Kirk Wildman), Assistant CEO, Michael Latimer and incoming CEO Rob Smith shaving their heads for the good cause. |

Funds were raised with an auction with the Manitoba Mafia ( Batho Farms, Oak Lake; N7 Stock Farm, Crandall; Mar Mac Farms, Brandon: Kembar Farms, Kemany;Grant Howse, Brandon;Kinared Red Angus, Portage; DJ Cattle Co, Brookdale; Topview Acres, Grandview; Stewart Cattle Co,, Russell; TSN Livestock , Brandon: Prairielane Farms, Souris: Triple V Ranch, Medora: Sandy Margetts, Brandon; Botany Angus, Souris: Leaning Spruce Stock Farm, Wawanesa and M+J Farms, Russell), Bill and Sylvia Jackson of Tullamore Angus, Ontario and Table 16 ( Belvin Angus, Fleming Stock Farm, Miller Wilson Angus and Remitall Farms from Alberta) Pledging $ 5000. Along with the auction Funds were raised by selling an autographed Ryan Miller Jersey for $ 2800 . Sandy Margetts of Brandon purchased the shirt and gave it to Thomas Wildman an 8 year old Angus and hockey enthusiast who has been suffering from Cancer. The generosity of the Angus members was evident for a great cause. An informative, productive Annual Meeting was enjoyed by everyone at the scenic Elkorn Ranch resort. |
